On October 24th, 2024, Lukas Lehner participated in a panel discussion on “AI in the world of work and the economy” at HAK/HAS Mistelbach – an upper secondary vocational school in Lower Austria. The audience comprised all students from grades 3 to 5 (ages 17 to 19), who were eager to hear the panel’s input on what their future workplace may look like given the advent of powerful generative AI systems.
Before discussing student’s questions with the other panellists, in a short opening talk, Lukas Lehner provided insight into how machine learning models learn from data by demonstrating the steps of a linear regression algorithm using gradient descent. Giving students a peek behind the scenes of an otherwise often mystified topic, such as AI, is part of the mission we pursue with our outreach activities.
