On May 28th, 2025, the inaugural meeting of the Academic & Learning Analytics Network took place at TU Wien, bringing together representatives from ten Austrian universities to discuss the future of data-informed higher education. The network emerged from collaborative efforts initiated by the BMBWF’s 2019 Digitalization Call, particularly the Learning Analytics Cluster, which included projects like “PASSt” and “Learning Analytics – Studierende im Fokus.”
René Röpke delivered a keynote address sharing insights from Learning Analytics research in Germany and highlighting current projects and key players in the German-speaking academic landscape. His goal was to share his experiences coming from Germany and in particular RWTH Aachen University, where lots of LA research is being conducted.
Together with Selina Reinhard, they took part as partners from TU Wien, together with the team of Shabnam Tauböck and Markus Reismann. They actively participated in the event, contributing to discussions on data-driven student support and the implementation of analytics tools in higher education. Further, the meeting featured presentations on performance-based feedback, the PATHFINDER tool for study path analysis, and recommender systems for student advising. The establishment of this network marks a significant step towards fostering collaboration and innovation in Learning Analytics across Austrian universities.
