Sonja Klein recently presented her peer-reviewed poster “Toward the Alignment of Understandability, Reasoning and Explainability in TEL” at the 21st European Conference on Technology-Enhanced Learning (ECTEL 2026), organized by UNED in Valencia, Spain.
The conceptual poster paper introduces AUREtel, a triadic, human-centered model that treats explainability in learning technologies as a pedagogical affordance and highlights the necessety to align explainability with stakeholder-specific understandability and pedagogical reasoning to foster mindful technology integration in educational settings. Presenting to an international audience and engaging in related discussions provided a valuable opportunity to examine future research directions towards stakeholder-centered explainability, with particular attention to possible empirical methods.
Further, Valencia offered the perfect sunny backdrop for prolonged discussions on the futures of human-centered perspectives, engagement, pedagogical stances of LLMs, as well as networking opportunities within the TEL community.
