Successful Defense of Dr.in rer. soc. oec. Anastasiya Savran

On September 10th, 2026, Anastasiya Savran successfully defended her cumulative doctoral dissertation at TU Wien. As the first doctoral researcher of the STEAM – STEM – stART’em doctoral college to complete her PhD, her defense marks an important milestone for the doctoral college and our lab.

Her dissertation, titled “Artistic STEAM Education. From Visual Self-Expression to Joint STE[A+]M Competencies,” investigates the role of artistic practices in STEAM education and explores how visual self-expression can contribute to the development of shared STE[A+]M competencies.

The defense featured a clear and engaging presentation of her research and provided a comprehensive overview of the findings and contributions developed throughout her doctoral work. The examination committee consisted of Associate Prof. Dr. Hilda Tellioğlu (TU Wien, Chair), Assistant Prof. Dr. René Röpke (TU Wien), Prof. Dr. Bernadette Spieler (Zurich University of Teacher Education), Associate Prof. Dr. Koichi Kasahara (Tokyo Gakugei University), and AProf. Mag. art. Michaela Martinek (University of Applied Arts Vienna).

As her first supervisor, I am particularly pleased to see Anastasiya’s doctoral journey reach this important milestone. Her work has contributed to our ongoing research on the intersection of technology, education, and artistic practice and has opened up new perspectives on how these fields can be connected.

We warmly congratulate Dr.in rer. soc. oec. Anastasiya Savran on her successful defense and wish her all the best for the next chapter of her academic and professional career. At the same time, we look forward to the upcoming defenses of the three other doctoral researchers of the STEAM – STEM – stART’em doctoral college in the coming months.
