Our former Erasmus+ student Tom Breuer recently presented his first peer-reviewed paper, stemming from research conducted for his Bachelor’s thesis, at the International Conference on Computer Supported Education (CSEDU 2026) in Benidorm, Spain.
The paper “Incorporating Recommended Course Prerequisites into Similarity-Based Course Recommender Systems for Higher Education” was written together with co-author Prof. Dr. René Röpke, who also supervised the underlying thesis during his time at RWTH Aachen University. The work introduces an approach to provide explainable course recommendations which are not only stemming from a data perspective but also consider course prerequisites.
The presentation to an international audience and the subsequent discussion provided an interesting forum to discuss current ideas in educational research in general and specifically applications of educational data mining.
