Sonja Klein<\/a>, Klaus Nigsch<\/a>, and Ren\u00e9 R\u00f6pke<\/a> participated in the pre-conference \u201cEducation in Times of AI \u2013 School Between Technology and Digital Humanism\u201d<\/em> on June 23rd, 2026 in Vienna, held ahead of the Digital Humanism Conference 2026<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event brought together educators, researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to discuss the opportunities and challenges of artificial intelligence in education. Highlights included a keynote by Martina Landman<\/a> (University of Cambridge<\/a> and former LTeD team member) and panel discussions featuring experts such as Leon Frischauf (Studyly<\/a>), Corinna H\u00f6rmann<\/a> (Universit\u00e4t Salzburg<\/a>), and Stefan Woltran<\/a>, Julia Neidhardt<\/a>, and Hannes Werthner<\/a> (TU Wien Informatics<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of the panel \u201cAI as a Subject of Learning\u201d<\/em>, Ren\u00e9 R\u00f6pke<\/a> discussed questions of AI literacy and AI education with Miriam Zotter (BG Purkersdorf<\/a>), Seval Yildiz-Sezer and Vojtech Maxa (GRG1 Stubenbastei<\/a>), Nicole Kraler (Die Wiener Volkshochschulen<\/a>), and Bernhard Fetz (\u00d6sterreichische Nationalbibliothek<\/a>). The panel was moderated by Doris Vickers (Die Wiener Volkshochschulen GmbH) and Hannes Werthner (TU Wien Informatics).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event was organized by Anita Eichinger, Horst Eichinger, and Hannes Werthner, with support from Die Wiener Volkshochschulen<\/a>, Wiener Lernhilfe<\/a>, Wienbibliothek im Rathaus<\/a>, GRG1 Stubenbastei<\/a>, TU Wien Informatics<\/a>, and the Digital Humanism Initiative<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The discussions provided valuable perspectives on how educational institutions can balance technological innovation with human-centered approaches to teaching and learning and offered important insights for LTed Research Lab\u2019s ongoing research on AI and digital transformation in education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
