{"id":1553,"date":"2024-11-25T09:33:50","date_gmt":"2024-11-25T07:33:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lted.se.tuwien.ac.at\/?p=1553"},"modified":"2025-10-13T12:57:59","modified_gmt":"2025-10-13T10:57:59","slug":"three-days-full-of-games-and-learning-gala-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lted.se.tuwien.ac.at\/index.php\/three-days-full-of-games-and-learning-gala-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Three days full of Games and Learning (GALA 2024)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>From November 20th to 22nd, 2024, <a href=\"https:\/\/lted.se.tuwien.ac.at\/index.php\/team\/roepke\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"634\">Ren\u00e9 R\u00f6pke<\/a> attended the <a href=\"https:\/\/conf.seriousgamessociety.org\/\">Games and Learning Alliance International Conference<\/a> (GALA 2024) at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hwr-berlin.de\/en\/\">Berlin School of Economics and Law<\/a> (HWR Berlin). It is the 13th edition organized by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seriousgamessociety.org\/\">Serious Games Society<\/a> in collaboration with HWR Berlin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The LTeD Research Lab was represented with two full papers. In a collaboration with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.southampton.ac.uk\/\">University of Southampton<\/a> (UK), <a href=\"https:\/\/uk.linkedin.com\/in\/kristina-risley\">Kristina Risley<\/a> and Ren\u00e9 R\u00f6pke presented their paper <strong>&#8220;A Growing Community of Practice on Games and Learning: A Literature Review with Bibliometric and Thematic Analyses&#8221;<\/strong> in the first session of the conference. On the second day, <a href=\"https:\/\/hci.rwth-aachen.de\/fiedler\">Kevin Fiedler<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rwth-aachen.de\/\">RWTH Aachen University<\/a>) presented the collaborative work with <a href=\"https:\/\/hci.rwth-aachen.de\/schaefer\">Ren\u00e9 Sch\u00e4fer<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/hci.rwth-aachen.de\/borchers\">Jan Borchers<\/a> and Ren\u00e9 R\u00f6pke. The paper is titled <strong>&#8220;Deception Detected! \u2013 A Serious Game About Detecting Dark Patterns&#8221;<\/strong>. Due to unfortunate delays with the publisher, the proceedings are not yet published.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his role as Games Competition and Exhibition Co-Chair, Ren\u00e9 R\u00f6pke was also part of the organizational committee. Together with Kristina Risley (University of Southampton, UK), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tudublin.ie\/explore\/faculties-and-schools\/computing-digital-data\/school-of-computer-science\/people\/academic-staff\/marianarocha.php\">Mariana Rocha<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tudublin.ie\/\">TU Dublin<\/a>, Ireland) and <a href=\"https:\/\/jonnybixbongers.xyz\/\">Jonny-Bix Bongers<\/a> (HWR Berlin, Germany), they hosted the serious games competition prior to the conference and organized the games exhibition on the first day of the conference. Here, participants were invited to play and test presented games, before voting which nominated games win in their respective categories.
